Upcoming Event Stength & Conditioning Training

This program is for EVERYONE regardless of age, ability, fitness level, or training experience. This program is professionally designed and coached by Torres Martial Arts member, Mo Hakim. Mo currently works as a strength and conditioning, and USA swim coach in Laporte, Indiana with several years of experience training and coaching in a variety of sports and disciplines.

Jiu-Jitsu

Torres’ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program utilizes a unique curriculum with classes for all ages and skill levels, which encompasses traditional and tournament jiu-jitsu and includes freestyle, folkstyle, catch wrestling, judo, and mixed martial arts grappling techniques. Torres’ unique approach to training exposed him to a variety of devastating positions and submission techniques that are not taught in most facilities. Grappling against bigger training partners and fighting in open weight classes early in his career meant Miguel couldn't rely on his size or strength, but the content of his knowledge and potency of his technique. This meant that a technical approach had to be made in order to be successful in a world that highlighted size and strength as the greatest weapons.

Kickboxing

At Torres Martial Arts Academy, we have designed a comprehensive program with classes for all ages and skill levels that encompasses American Kickboxing and Muay Thai and teaches a hybrid style of striking that includes karate, tae kwon do, and boxing. Torres has been training and competing in mixed martial arts since he was 17 years old. Starting out as the physically smallest and least experienced in training, he learned that to overcome size and experience differences between himself and sparring partners, he would have to learn what they didn't know -taking what is most effective from each style and making the techniques real by using them in combat on the mat, ring, or cage.

NEW CLASS | STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

This program is for EVERYONE regardless of age, ability, fitness level, or previous training experience.

The Strength and Conditioning class was created to promote general fitness and well-being, and as a supplement to jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, and MMA training. This program is designed to facilitate increases in functional strength, aerobic/anerobic capacities, and mobility. For the Torres Martial Arts members regularly training in BJJ, kickboxing, or MMA, taking measures to promote longevity in the martial arts and in your training is an absolute priority.

A key focus of this strength and conditioning program is on injury prevention by building strength and stability in injury prone areas such as the knees, shoulders, back, and neck. In this class, proper lifting mechanics and technique wil l be thoroughly demonstrated and taught in order to promote a safe tra ining environment, as well as modified movement and scaling options to accommodate everyone's ability level.
